Installing SOLIDWORKS 2020 from an Administrative Image via Command Line

This page is only relevant to users installing the Network Edition of SOLIDWORKS.

As there are so many component parts to SOLIDWORKS, our general advice is to NOT use Command Line installations, but to use instead the Administrative Image network installation features.

Should you need to use the Command Line installation, these instructions provide the commands you should use to install the software from an Administrative Image. They assume you are using the Command Prompt and entering one command at a time.

We strongly recommend trying the installation on one client computer first and making sure that everything works correctly, before distributing to your entire network.

We do not recommend performing these Command Line Installations if you are not familiar with how Command Line Installations work.

There are full instructions listing all of the commands and parameters in the official SOLIDWORKS Documentation:

Official SOLIDWORKS Command Line Deployment Documentation
Introduction
Before undertaking these instructions, you must first have performed the following procedures:
  1. Installed and activated the SolidNetWork Licence Manager on your server computer. See our Full Instructions.

  2. Created an Administrative Image of the SOLIDWORKS installation. See our Full Instructions.

  3. Stored the Administrative Image in a location accessible to the clients on your network.
Pre-Requisite Installations
You must first install the following pre-requisite components onto the client computers.
  • Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Packages
  • Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Packages
  • Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Packages
  • Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Packages
  • Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable Packages
  • .NET Framework 4.7.2
  • Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2015

  2. Navigate to the folder called 64bit within your Administrative Image. You can do this by typing the following command and pressing Enter:

    cd "Administrative Image Folder Path\64bit"

    An example might be something like:

    cd "C:\SOLIDWORKS Admin\SOLIDWORKS 2020 SP3.0\64bit"

  3. Use the following commands one after the other:

    "Microsoft_C++_2008_Redistributable_(x64)\vcredist_x64.exe" /Q

    "Microsoft_C++_2008_Redistributable\vcredist_x86.exe" /Q

    "Microsoft_C++_2010_Redistributable_(x64)\vcredist_x64.exe" /Q

Upgrading SOLIDWORKS to a new Version (e.g. 2019 to 2020)
This requires additional parameters please see the full documentation. Please note that we recommend to uninstall the old version before installing the new version.

Namely, you should add the following parameters to the command lines:

To upgrade the installation:
UPGRADESWINSTALL=1 SWMIGRATE="SOLIDWORKS 2019 x64 Edition SP02"

To install as a new separate installation:
UPGRADESWINSTALL=0 SWMIGRATE="SOLIDWORKS 2019 x64 Edition SP02"

Note that SWMIGRATE corresponds to the edition already installed. You can find the correct year and service pack by going to Control Panel > Programs and Features.

You should also modify the installation directories and toolbox directory if needed.
Upgrading SOLIDWORKS Service Packs within the same year (e.g. 2020 SP2 to 2020 SP3)
This requires additional parameters please see the full documentation.

Namely, you should add the following parameters to the command lines:
REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vomus
